A Week of Giving

This past week presented two different opportunities for our school community to give back in awesome ways. I want to thank all of the 6th grade students and families that participated in our 6th grade service project. We packed over 200 backpacks to give to our Global Cleveland families…and we still have enough supplies to finish a few more.

Another big thank you to all of those students, staff and families that donated to our food drive. You will see the incredible totals below!

As always, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher, school counselor, grade level principal, or me with any questions.

Thanks,

Erin

BEAR Way Challenge

Earlier this year, we surveyed students about areas in the building where we are successfully and unsuccessfully living the BEAR Way. Our students identified that they are doing a great job in classrooms, but ranked behavior in the restrooms as their top area of growth. Some of our students are using phones, hiding out, or scheduling meet ups with peers in the restrooms. Some of our students also choose to cause damage to our restrooms. All of these behaviors negatively impact our students that choose to use our restrooms responsibly, and our staff that takes care of these environments.

This coming week, grade-levels will begin a competition to change the way we behave in that specific school environment. Hall monitors, administrators, and custodians will be checking bathrooms frequently, and will award points to grade-levels that keep their restrooms clean and functional. Students that choose the wrong types of behaviors in our restrooms will damage their grade-level’s chances at winning the contest, and (as always) will receive consequences. The leading grade will earn rewards throughout the competition, and the winning grade-level will get to choose their final reward from a few options. I expect our students will rise to the occasion, and then continue the positive behavior throughout the year.

Science Olympiad Advisors Needed

At this time we are looking for parents or community members that might be interested in advising our Science Olympiad team. At this time, two individuals have expressed interest, but it would be important to at least have a third advisor. We have several students returning from our 22-23 state qualifying team, and they are hoping to continue their success. Our former advisors would help get things started. Please email me if you are interested.

NRHS PTA Annual Craft Fair

The Annual NRHS PTA Craft Fair will be held on Saturday, November 18th from 9am until 3pm at the high school.  Proceeds benefit NRHS students.

PTA Reflections

It is that time of year again for the PTA reflections contest! This year's theme is "I am hopeful because...". Students can submit up to one entry in each category of Dance Choreography, Literature, Photography, Film Production, Music Composition, and/or Visual Arts. There is also a Special Artist division for all grades for those students who identify as having a disability and may receive services under IDEA or ADA with an IEP or 504. Each individual entry needs a student entry form. The PTA page for Reflections has been updated with this year's info as well. Entries are due Wednesday December 13, 2023.
