From October 23-31, North Royalton Middle School students and staff embraced the message of living drug-free through a week filled with fun activities and positive messages.
Members of the student group STAND (Students Together Against Negative Decisions) kicked off Spirit Week with a roller skating outing on the evening of October 23.
Throughout the spirit week, each day carried a unique theme meant to inspire students to make positive choices. On "Too Cool for Drugs" Tuesday, students sported red outfits and made an effort to connect with new friends. On "Bear Pride" Wednesday, students showed their school spirit by wearing purple and gold, and thanked someone important in their lives for guiding them to stay drug-free. On Thursday, the theme was America and students wore their U.S.A. gear and voted for their future to be drug free. They were encouraged to “power off” their phones for the day. On Monday, students dressed in their fanciest outfits to show they were too cool for drugs. On Halloween, students were able to wear costumes to scare off drugs. They were encouraged to give a family member a hug.
“Red Ribbon Week is a great opportunity for our students to feel connected to one another,” said Principal Erin Calabrese, North Royalton Middle School. “It’s a lot easier for students to make positive choices when they are making those choices together.
