Evan Grove, a senior at North Royalton High School, has transformed his lifelong love of dirt bikes and mechanical work into a promising career trajectory through the Power Equipment Technology (PET) program at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center (CVCC). The class is taught by Matthew Harding.

Grove's journey began with a childhood surrounded by dirt bikes and a natural aptitude for building and repair. After touring the PET classroom and seeing advanced machinery, he was immediately captivated. "If I don't get into this program, then I'm not attending CVCC. I have to be in this program," Grove recalled. "I owe so much to Mr. Harding. He's an amazing teacher and he is the reason why I got into trucks and diesel. I wouldn't be where I am today without his guidance."

Under the guidance, Grove has not only learned technical skills but also secured a job placement with Peterbilt. His post-graduation plans include continuing work at Peterbilt and enrolling in their 12-week Peterbilt Technician Institute (PTI) program to become a semi-diesel mechanic.

The program has been transformative for Grove, who highlights the supportive learning environment and hands-on experiences. One of his most memorable moments was hearing V-8 engines run after months of dedicated work—a testament to the program's immersive approach to learning. He appreciates the hands-on learning and the supportive, fun environment among students from different districts. "We're working hard, learning, and taking it seriously, but still having so much fun."

Outside of school, Grove enjoys riding dirt bikes, taking things apart and rebuilding them, and working side jobs, including construction and remodeling.

"Take in everything—the material, the opportunities—all of it. Ask questions and make the most of your experience," Grove advises future Career Center students.
