As you are aware, a total solar eclipse will occur on April 8, 2024. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon appears to totally obscure the Sun. Prior to this event (and spring break), your child will learn more about this event in his or her science class. We believe that these activities will enhance your child's understanding of the solar eclipse and spark curiosity about the wonders of the universe.
Our district has purchased special safety glasses for all students, so they can view this once in a lifetime event. On March 25, students will receive their safety glasses during the school day. The eclipse should only be directly viewed when wearing the safety glasses provided. We kindly ask that you remind your child to bring their safety glasses home and to handle them with care.
Please note that the North Royalton City Schools will not have school on the eclipse day. However, we encourage you to continue learning at home by discussing the eclipse with your child and exploring related resources together. Linked here are solar eclipse activities for parents and caregivers, and well as here.
Additionally, please note that the city of North Royalton will be hosting a viewing party at Serpentini Stadium on the day of the total solar eclipse, April 8, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Families attending should bring the safety glasses provided with them. Please visit the City of North Royalton’s Facebook page for more information.
As always, thank you for your support and Go Bears!
