On October 26, North Royalton High School held its annual #NRAspireHigher–Career, College and Military Exploration Day.  The event gave students in grades 9-12 the chance to explore future career paths and learn about college and military options.

More than 50 colleges, employers and organizations set up booths to engage with students.  Attendees learned specifics about required education, training, pay and work responsibilities for careers like engineering, healthcare, construction trades, business and more. Law enforcement, EMTs, IT, retail, and several military branches also attended.

Local colleges included Lorain County Community College, Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland State University, Mount Union, Baldwin Wallace University, Walsh University, Kent State University, John Carroll University, Ashland University, Hiram College, Ursuline College,

Ohio University, Miami University, University of Cincinnati, Ohio State University, University of Dayton, The University of Toledo, Ohio Dominican University, Youngstown State University and Marietta College.

A highlight was having Penny Kmitt, NRHS Class of 2016, co-host the morning video announcements, as well as talk with students about broadcasting.  Kmitt just left her position as a reporter with WTKR News 3 in Norfolk, Virginia and is back in Cleveland looking forward to starting the next chapter of her life.  After co-hosting the NRHS morning news, she said, “This was the coolest thing I’ve ever done…way better than any breaking news stories or any other TV program I’ve been on. It’s been a full circle moment!”

“I would like to thank all the participating members of our community and our outstanding counseling department for coming together to help provide this experience to our students,” said Principal Sean Osborne, North Royalton High School.  “I hope that today we were able to at least plant a seed with some of our students and help them explore and nurture their career aspirations.”
