Food and Snack Guidelines at the Elementary Level

There have been a few questions from our families about the district's policy on shared snacks at the elementary level. For those who have not yet viewed the Elementary Shared Food Letter, follow the link for more details. It can also be found on our website by clicking Menu/Forms & Links/Elementary Forms & Links/Elementary Shared Food Letter.

While we no longer have a "Snack List" containing specific items that are permissible, we remain just as diligent that the health and safety of our students is of the utmost importance.  The District adheres to guidelines for shared food and snacks so that we can promote safety, consistency, and equal access for the growing number of children who have life-threatening food allergies.

Homemade or home-baked food items to be served to students as a shared snack are not permitted at NRES. In addition, families and staff members will need to be meticulous to check that all store-bought items display an ingredient food label for allergen verification, as shared food and snacks must be free from peanuts and tree nuts. Additional restrictions, such as eggs and milk, may be instituted at the classroom level should a student’s health needs dictate.

When in doubt, please call the office at 440-582-9060 for assistance with shared snack questions.

Small denomination gift cards needed for staff surprises!

As a way to continue to enhance the culture and atmosphere at North Royalton Elementary School, we are seeking donations of small denomination gift cards that will be used throughout the year for staff surprises. Donations we have received so far are $5 to $10 gift cards for businesses like Dunkin', Starbucks, Target, Giant Eagle and more.

Periodically during the year, Mr. Pavelich travels the halls with a Snack and Beverage cart that brightens the day and lifts the spirits of our wonderful staff at NRES. The donated gift cards will be hidden among the items contained in the cart as a special surprise gift for the teachers and support staff at the building. If you would like to help, just stop by the main office and let our staff know you are donating for this worthy cause!

Families must display hang tags during afternoon dismissal process

Thank you to all of our families who have been adjusting to our new afternoon dismissal process, which combines preschool and school-aged children all being released at 3:30 p.m. As you already know, parents/guardians with GOLD tags enter drive #1 and proceed to the right to join the preschool pick-up line. Parents/guardians with PURPLE tags also enter drive #1 but proceed directly toward the pick-up point closest to the gymnasium. Once the school-aged line stretches to the white crosswalk in front of the building, the next vehicle moves to the left hand lane and proceeds through the middle of the parking lot loop to arrive back at the merge point. This procedure has been working fantastic and we are so appreciative of the assistance of School Resource Officer Colin Gregory who works daily to ensure that the process runs smoothly.

Where we need everyone's cooperation is with displaying the hang tags that have been  issued to you. When you have them visible, our staff is able to efficiently enter all of those numbers into our database, which in turn alerts our dismissal crew inside the cafeteria to line students up in the correct order for dismissal. To keep the line moving in an efficient manner each day, anyone without a tag may be directed to park and enter the building. If you need a hang tag or additional tags for your family, please call the office at 440-582-9060 so arrangements can be made to keep you in the line during the afternoon pick up process.

Families are invited to join the Birthday Book Club

The Birthday Book Club is a great way to show your child the importance of reading for pleasure.  Birthday Book Club has been a North Royalton City Schools’ tradition for many years.  Thanks to it, our library has increased its collection of high-quality books for students to read and enjoy. If you would like your child to join the Birthday Book Club, follow this link, detach the form, and return it to NRES.
