April 11, 2025
Dear North Royalton Community,
At the April 10, 2025, meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education, two important resolutions were unanimously passed that reflect our unwavering commitment to advocating for fair, equitable, and stable public school funding across the state of Ohio.
1. Resolution in Support of the Fair School Funding Plan (FSFP)
This resolution reaffirms our support for the Fair School Funding Plan—a bipartisan, research-based framework designed to ensure all Ohio students receive the resources they need to succeed, regardless of their zip code.
The Board called for:
Continued full implementation and funding of the FSFP using updated cost inputs that reflect current inflation, staffing needs, and student services.
Strong opposition to any proposals that would cut funding to districts currently receiving funding guarantees.
The Ohio General Assembly and Governor to uphold their commitment to the FSFP in the 136th General Assembly.
Collaboration with fellow school districts and education stakeholders to promote a funding model that supports all students without creating a zero-sum system.
2. Resolution to Oppose Cap on School District Reserves
The Board also passed a resolution opposing a proposal in the state budget that would cap district reserve funds at 25% of their operating budget, with any excess required to be returned to taxpayers. This proposal will negatively impact the ability of school districts to provide a high-quality education to students and would significantly undermine local districts’ ability to:
Maintain financial stability,
Address unexpected or evolving student needs,
Implement long-term strategic goals, and
Support the Fair School Funding Plan as intended.
We strongly urge the Ohio General Assembly to remove this provision and adopt a budget that supports—not hinders—the long-term success of Ohio’s public schools.
Copies of both resolutions have been forwarded to the Governor, members of the Ohio General Assembly, the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, and other key stakeholders. We are proud to be a voice for responsible school funding and for the continued investment in Ohio’s students and public education.
