Alessandra Maund's journey into cosmetology began with a simple desire to do her own nails. Now, the North Royalton High School junior is thriving in the Cosmetology program at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center (CVCC) under the guidance of instructor Melissa Fox.
"This has hands down been the best school year I've had. I look forward to my time at CVCC every single day," says Maund, who was initially drawn to the program after hearing positive reviews about both the school and Ms. Fox's instruction. “Ms. Fox is one of those teachers you will always remember.”
Fox praises Maund's dedication, noting, "She has a great work ethic and is always helping others." This commitment was recently demonstrated when Maund participated in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Preschool Moms Club Breakfast with Santa, where she and her classmates offered hair tinsel and nail painting services as a fundraiser. "I loved seeing and interacting with all the kids. My entire class had such a great time," Maund reflects.
Looking ahead, Maund plans to pursue a business degree in college with an entrepreneurial goal that might surprise some – running a cat shelter. When she's not perfecting her cosmetology skills, she stays busy working at her uncle's pizza shop and pursuing her passion for nail art and shopping.
For students considering CVCC, Maund offers candid advice: "Attending CVCC is a blast, but it's a lot of work. You have to want to be here." Her enthusiasm for the program is evident when she adds, "Even on weekends, I wish I was in class—it's crazy, right? That just goes to show what a great decision and perfect fit this program was for me."
