Cuyahoga Valley Career Center Student Spotlight: Bogdan Gura

Bogdan Gura is a senior at North Royalton High School and is enrolled in CVCC’s Programming & Software Development program instructed by Jami Little. As a sophomore, Bogdan had a friend who attended CVCC and loved it, so he decided to checkout what programs the school had to offer. At the time, Bogdan was taking an introductory computer course at his high school, but figured that the Programming & Software Development program at CVCC was the perfect opportunity to deep dive into the field and find out if programming was a passion of his.

Bogdan’s favorite experience within the program has been participating in Business Professionals of America (BPA). At BPA regionals this month, Bogdan placed second in SQL Database Fundamentals and placed first in Web Design (along with his two teammates)! One of his favorite projects that he has worked on, that he put tireless hours into, he referred to as a “Khan Academy replicate.” “BPA events are so rewarding and fun. I worked very hard all summer to get to where I am now with BPA.” Bogdan has also enjoyed all of the field trips his class has had the opportunity to attend, recalling an exciting field trip where he had the opportunity to use a VR set. Bogdan hopes to be a freelance programmer full-time, creating websites and games for both small and big organizations, as this would allow him the freedom to choose what projects he works on. Bogdan’s advice to current and future CVCC students is to work hard and apply your skills outside of school.

“If you want to achieve extraordinary results, you have to put in extraordinary effort. No one in my family is very tech savvy, so besides the knowledge that I’ve learned in school, I’ve learned everything on my own. I’m honestly surprised and impressed with how far I’ve come.” - Bogdan Gura

Bogdan participated in wrestling until he decided to take programming more seriously. In his spare time, he enjoys biking and being outdoors.
