In the last 16 months, the number of international families that have joined the North Royalton City Schools’ community has exploded. North Royalton Middle School (NRMS) welcomed 50 new students from out of the country just last year. This year, NRMS has welcomed an additional 10, and counting.

In order to help meet the needs of these students and families, NRMS has partnered with Global Cleveland to create a family service project. Global Cleveland is a non-profit organization dedicated to growing Northeast Ohio’s economy by welcoming and connecting international people to opportunities and fostering a more inviting community for those seeking a place to call home. They serve immigrants, refugees, international students, and secondary migrants. Global Cleveland helped the District organize the first of two International Nights during the 2022-23 school year.

This year, NRMS and Global Cleveland are putting together backpacks for international families that are making Northeast Ohio their new home. On the evenings of the middle school’s sixth-grade, student-led conferences in November, school families will have the opportunity to stuff backpacks with school supplies and outdoor, winter apparel.  In order to fill the goal of 300 backpacks, $6,000 needs to be raised.  “The North Royalton and Broadview Heights communities have welcomed these new families with open arms throughout the past few years,” said Principal Erin Calabrese, North Royalton Middle School.  “A donation of money, winter hats/gloves, or school supplies would help us teach our students the importance of living the BEAR Way by helping others in their own and surrounding communities.” All donors will be recognized during the student-led conferences as well as at the November Board of Education meeting.

Donations can be made by calling North Royalton Middle School at 440-582-9120.
