North Royalton City Schools Recognizes 2022-23 Friend of Education

North Royalton City Schools recognized Ashley DeAngelis as the 2022-23 Friend of Education at the April 17 North Royalton Board of Education regular meeting.  DeAngelis is the president of the North Royalton High School PTA.

This annual award goes to a person or persons who significantly contribute to North Royalton City Schools, help inspire and empower students, and dedicate themselves to making North Royalton and Broadview Heights great places.

DeAngelis has been an engaged parent volunteer for many years.  As a member of countless committees, holding officer and chair positions or simply as a volunteer she has given her time, talent and treasure to the students and staff of North Royalton City Schools.  “She gets involved regardless of whether her own children are involved or not,” said North Royalton High School Principal Sean Osborne.  “She is concerned about leaving the schools in a better way than she found them.  She knows how to rally the troops to accomplish a goal, but to also step up and do the hard work by herself when it is necessary.”

“While I was principal of North Royalton Middle School (NRMS), Ashley regularly attended and was an active parent during her middle level PTA years,” said Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction Jeff Cicerchi.  “She is supportive of our School District while not shying away from asking questions to understand the ‘why’ of what we do.” DeAngelis also coordinated and directed the NRMS PTA Talent/Variety Show.

Former Valley Vista Elementary Principal Jeff Hill said, “Ashley was a tremendous parent who was always supportive with our building, District and community initiatives. She was extremely active in our PTA and can’t remember her ever missing a meeting. She would always volunteer for their committees. She volunteered both in and out of the classroom and it didn’t have to be with her children’s teachers.”

“While I never actually worked with Ashley as a parent at the middle school, Royal View or the new North Royalton Elementary School, I echo what others have said about going above and beyond to coordinate everything she possibly could to benefit the children of the District,” said Principal Kirk Pavelich, North Royalton Elementary School.  “The closest opportunity to work with her was when my daughter, Becca, was in the Show Choir with her son, Nicholas, and she worked tirelessly as the Choir Boosters President. All of her efforts were certainly recognized and appreciated by the parents, as she helped to build the organization into the respected unit it still is today.”

“I have had the pleasure of working with Ashley over the years and what I appreciate the most about Ashley is that she approaches every situation with a positive attitude and a deep, sincere, caring heart,” continued Osborne. “When Ashley asks you how you are doing, she actually is concerned about your answer and is willing to listen.  Her approach and her dedication to our school system has truly made it a better place for our students, parents and staff.”
