Mid Season Payments:

Half payments will be automatically made at mid season provided

1. The mid season payment option is selected on the contract.

2. All certifications must be up to date and on file at the Board office.  

Final Payments:

1. Complete the Athletic Supplemental Request Form.

2. Obtain approval signatures from principal and athletic director.

3. Outside coaches need to submit a work calendar along with the payment request for retirement service credit.

4. Submit form to payroll department. 

Coaches share their talent, skills and experience to advise or monitor the student athletes of the North Royalton City School District. Our coaches are required to meet the training requirements set forth by our District and the Ohio Department of Education. 

Coaches are required to obtain a Pupil Activity Permit through the Ohio Department of Education to work with, supervise, or coach student athletes in Ohio.  

To obtain a Pupil Activity Permit, coaches must complete the following trainings: 

Fundamentals of Coaching Certificate (one time only training):

•  National Federation of State High School Association's (NFHS) Fundamentals of Coaching Class

Advanced First Aid for Coaches (PAP Class) - Nationally Approved Programs (must take in order to obtain or renew PAP License): 

•  Red Cross (First Aid Health and Safety for Coaches)

•  Human Kinetics Coach Education Center (Sports First Aid)

•  National Federation of State High School Associations (First Aid Health and Safety for Coaches)

Concussion Training Certificate (valid for three years):

• The National Federation of State High School Association's Training Program "Concussion in Sports"

• National Alliance for Youth Sports Concussion Training

• National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention "Heads Up to Your Sports Online Training

   

Sudden Cardiac Arrest Certificate (Lindsay's Law) (valid for one year):

•  Each year, coaches must renew the Sudden Cardiac Arrest training also known as Lindsay's Law. The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) encourages use of its Learning Management System (LMS) to access the Lindsay's Law course. Coaches must have an active or pending Pupil Activity Permit (PAP) application to access the LMS system on the ODE Website. Once the permit is in the active or pending status, you may access the LMS through your OH/ID account. On the LMS homepage at the top right corner, click the Course Catalog link. Then search for Sudden Cardiac Arrest to find the course. After you view the materials and pass a short test, you may download and print your certificate of completion. 

   

CPR/AED Card (valid for two years):

• The athletic department works the Cleveland Clinic to offer CPR/AED classes twice a year (winter/summer). Coaches will receive information on these classes via email.  The American Red Cross also offers online certifications, or you can contact your local fire department to see if they offer courses.

Protecting Students from Abuse (PBIS - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) (valid for one year):

Pupil Activity Permit:  Once a coach has completed the required trainings, they will need to apply for a Pupil Activity Permit through the Ohio Department of Education by following the steps listed below.  

STATE REQUIREMENT (before applying for a PAP):
*Effective October 3, 2023, Ohio law requires all athletic coaches to complete a student mental health training course approved by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Any individual applying to renew their permit (or who held a permit and is applying for a different multi-year pupil-activity permit, such as a 4-Year or 5-Year) on or after October 3, 2023, must submit a certificate of completion from an approved course list to the Office of Educator Licensure and Effectiveness with their application. New athletic coaches have the duration of their permit to complete the training. Follow the link below for the training.

All coaches and volunteers are required to have a BCI/FBI Background check at the time of hire. FBI background checks are required every five years thereafter. Background checks are done at our Board of Education office, 6579 Royalton Road, North Royalton, Ohio.
